Rising German-American singer-songwriter ''Akimi'' pops up on our radar with her newest song "Schadenfreude".This energetic, bass-guitar-driven, pop-funk track speaks to that spiteful nudge within us all that craves a little revenge when someone has exited our lives, despite the best of intentions.
STORY:We can pretend to wish the best for those who have entered and abruptly left our lives, but there's always that spiteful nudge within that craves a little revenge. The driven, funky bass certainly won't make you wish your ex-lover or ex-best friend the absolute worst...but a stubbed toe, bad hair day, and empty gas tank aren't so bad to ask for, are they? The powerful and unbothered tone of the vocals will leave you relieved to have dodged the bullet.

'The song was written by me, Akimi Gyamfi and produced by my producer and friend Elie Bashkow, an American Instrumentalist, Producer, and Audio Engineer. The instrumentals and vocals in Schadenfreude were recorded in one single 12 hour studio session– my first solo recording session ever. I consider Schadenfreude to be extremely successful for my first ever release. It represents my passion for music, singing, songwriting, and my future in music. she said

Akimi is a German-American singer and songwriter based in Virginia. A lifelong blender of identities, Akimi has been expressing her own contradictions through her lyrics and singing voice in private and on the stage, since the age of five. Her passionate and concentrated voice is heavily influenced by Neo-soul, RnB, Jazz, and Hip-Hop. In her songs, densely layered harmonies and dynamic leads interplay with heavy and grooving instrumentals in a way that feels simultaneously nostalgic and futuristic. Her music, much like the rest of her life, lives in that exciting and brackish space where opposite qualities meet.
Akimi delivers the technical precision from 10 years of vocal training and the fiery rawness of her lived experience, reveling in that tension. This balance comes through in her songwriting as well, as she weaves together the rough and smooth, the revengeful and forgiving, the calm and windy.
