The track was birthed during a writing retreat hosted by hit songwriter Emily Warren, a week that Kings Elliot describes as "therapy through songwriting." Along with collaborators Max Wolfgang and Adam Yaron, the trio crafted the song in less than two hours. Elliot went on to complete the track with her long-term collaborator Halfrhymes, resulting in the poignant and cathartic final version listeners now hear.
“Starcrossed” marks a new musical direction for Kings Elliot, one that draws inspiration from 1950s music. This throwback influence is evident throughout the song, adding layers of nostalgic charm while staying true to her contemporary sound. Kings Elliot shares how this new sound feels when performing live:
“I’ve always drawn inspiration from ‘50s music, but this song is the first time I’ve fully embraced that influence, and I love every second of it—especially the catharsis it brings when I perform it live. It’s something I’ll be doing a lot more of this year!”
